Two Associate Professorships in Organization Studies

Copenhagen Business School invites applications for two vacant Associate Professorships in Organization Studies at the Department of Organization (IOA) Department of Organization (IOA) has a strong tradition for high-quality research that examines how organizations operate in practice and contributes to continued theoretical development in the field of organization studies and beyond. IOA is also widely known for its sustained commitment to qualitative and ethnographic approaches that foster a close engagement with organizational settings and generate deep insight into how power, meaning, and professional relations unfold in the everyday life of organizations and processes of organizing. The new Associate Professors will play a key role in IOA’s mission to sustain and further develop IOA’s leading position in these two areas.
Ideal candidates will explore these areas from a social science perspective and combine a strong expertise in qualitative methods/methodology with theoretical depth grounded in organization studies, sociology, or related disciplines (e.g., anthropology, social psychology, or political science), and engagement with relevant practice and policy settings.Examples of research areas and approaches that an Associate Professor might cover:Sociological perspectives on organizations and processes of organizingHow organizations are changing and how these changes will shape what will constitute organizations and organizing in the futureThe impact of current societal transformations in and around organizationsMethodological development and innovation in relation to qualitative, ethnographic, and/or mixed methods, for example related to the emergence of new media- and data sources and the utilization of computational/AI in data processing and analysisThe Department of Organization pursues a problem-oriented, business in society approach to understanding and intervening in organizations and organizational life. Our research is focused upon organizing processes and their outcomes and driven by an interest in organization and management as a practical, situated, contested and changing matter. Our approach is interdisciplinary and combines social-scientific traditions such as organization theory, sociology, ethnography, political economy, and social psychology.
Researchers in our department draw on a range of different research methodologies encompassing qualitative and quantitative techniques as well as mixed methods. We are organized into six research groups and centers: Center for Organizational Research on Impact (CORI); Center for Organization and Time (COT); Organization, Markets and Governance (OMG); People and Organizing (PnO); Research, Innovation and Organization (RIO); Work, Expertise, Technology and Organization (WETO).The Department of Organization has a wide range of teaching responsibilities. These include, but are not limited to, the following programs: HA projektledelse; HA psykologi; BSc in International Business and Politics; MSc in Economics and Business Administration in Strategy, Organization and Leadership (SOL); Cand.Soc Human Resource Management; Cand.merc.
Psykologi; and MSc in International Business and Politics. IOA also delivers teaching in executive education programs, including the Danish language programs such as Master in Public Governance (MPG), Master in Management Development (MMD) and HD2 Organisation og Ledelse (HDO). Supervision tasks relating to the educational programs are an integral part of the positioResponsibilitiesResearch at high international standards, including responsibility for the academic development of organization studiesActive participation in the regular research activities, such as research seminars, workshops and conferences and seeking external funding.

Promoting CBS’s academic reputation QualificationsA PhD in the social sciences and/or humanitiesPrior experience as a postdoc or Assistant Professor in relevant fieldsDocumented research production at an international level, including publications in internationally recognized journals within the field Documented teaching qualifications and material for the evaluation of the pedagogical level.
