The Novo Nordisk Foundation Quantum Computing Programme (NQCP) is establishing a talented and diverse international team to create a cutting-edge quantum programme in the heart of Copenhagen, Denmark. At the Niels Bohr Institute, University of Copenhagen, where the formulation of Quantum Mechanics was born 100 years ago, we aim to establish an international quantum computing programme that will drive research and innovations at multiple levels - from developing scalable quantum processor technologies to solutions for the quantum-classical control and readout interface, and all the way quantum algorithms and applications. The long-term mission of the programme is to develop fault-tolerant quantum computing hardware and quantum algorithms that solve life-science-relevant chemical and biological problems.
We are seeking an experienced quantum photonic engineer for the development of high-quality quantum photonic systems. The employee will be focusing on designing, fabricating, characterizing and advancing state-of-the-art hardware for the generation and processing of high-quality photonic entanglement, central to our photonic quantum processors. The work will be performed as part of the Photonic Platform team.
The scope of responsibility centers on semiconductor fabrication of photonic platforms, and include fabrication, characterization, data tracking & analysis, and reporting. Additionally, the employee will be part of the Education & Workforce Development team, developing advance experimental activities for pedagogical purposes. The work includes upgrading the photonics labs used for activities in high school, Bsc and Msc levels, as well as updating the pedagogical approach.
Responsibilities: Driving the development of advanced fabrication processes in close partnership with Tools Development, Characterization, and Quantum Platform Integration teams. Designing and implementing comprehensive in-process work streams, including technical protocols, testing standards, and quality specifications. Help standardize benchmarks between qubit platforms.
Implementing and documenting experiments, analyzing data, generating reports. Engaging with the simulation and design of solid-state hardware for photonic entanglement generation. Analyzing correlations between process parameters and metrology data to refine and stabilize fabrication outcomes.
Monitoring process capability and track variations to identify, lead, and support initiatives that enhance manufacturing excellence. Updating and upgrading the photonic systems in the teaching lab. Coordinating and conducting teaching activities for Bsc and Msc level labs.
Driving the pedagogical part of an interuniversity project (in collaboration with DTU). Qualifications: PhD in physics, engineering, nanotechnologies, or related. 2+ years’ experimental work with quantum optics and/or cleanroom fabrication.
Proven skill in working with photonics (e.g. lasers, single-photon detectors, spectroscopy, linear and nonlinear optics). Experience in nanofabrication techniques including electron beam and optical lithography, dry and wet etching methods, and thin film deposition. Experience in modeling, controlling and analyzing experiments.

Terms of employment The employment and salary are made in accordance with the Circular on the Collective Agreement concerning academics in the state sector concluded between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).
Employment will be as a special consultant. The salary is based on seniority. Negotiation for salary supplement is possible.
The working time is 37 hours per week on average and the working hours are flexible. The position is limited in time until 28 February 2029. Appointment will be subject to receipt of a security clearance.
